Our Daily Bread Devotional Bible-NLT

The New Living Translation is my preferred translation and having it coupled with Our Daily Bread devotionals makes this a fantastic Bible. Our Daily Bread devotionals gives applicable devotions while not being to "fluffy" in nature. The devotions are place alongside the versus it pertains to so you go can look right over and read the scripture. To me this devotional bible is almost like having a life application devotional. I received the hardback version of this bible. The text inside is a comfortable reading size. This devotional is just a pleasure to have.

Tough Guys and Drama Queens

Tough Guys and Drama Queens: How Not to Get Blindsided by Your Child's Teen Years by Mark Gregston is for parents of teenagers and soon to be teenagers who want to ensure that their children have stability in their lives and the wisdom in their heads to make it through all the tribulations of being a teenager in today's society, including sexualization, conflict, appearance, performance, authority issues and personal boundaries. Mark Gregston gives us all a reminder that the teenage years are difficult. With over 35 years of experience in working with troubled teens, Mark Gregston speaks from experience. He has seen many parents that thought they were doing all the right things as they missed all of the signs. This book is a road map for all of us as we do what we can to raise our children. This book is a great resource for parents. Appearance, performance, authority, respect and boundaries, as well as other good tools and helpful tips to get through the teen years with your sanity and children that are well rounded and still pushing forward!

The Fruitful Wife

"The Fruitful Wife" looks to the Bible to find the answers about how a wife can grow in the Fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. I thought the author wrote a very organized and easy to understand book. I liked the idea of using the fruits of the spirit as a guide for making your marriage better. I also found the book to be helpful and non-judgmental. I think this book would be great for any wife going through a changing period in her marriage but would really be a great book for any wife to read.

Soul Detox

The book goes on to discuss toxic behaviors such as self-deception, negative language, and covered-up sins; toxic emotions such as resentment, envy, anger and fear; and toxic influences such as materialism, exposure to harmful media, and unhealthy relationships. Great book that gives practical ways to live more clean in a not-so-clean world! Soul Detox has some great insight to help us identify the areas where we get off track. We can't control everything that happens to us, but we can make adjustments to take care of our soul and live more freely and fully. Craig does a grand job of making a very serious subject approachable, understandable and even amusing.

KJV Bride's Bible

This is a beautiful little pocket bible. The silver "lace" design on the cover makes for a elegant cover. It is the complete Bible with a 52 page Concordance, 10 Full Color Maps of Biblical regions, and the words of Jesus in red.  The Bible is approximately 4-1/2" x 7" x 3/4" and about 860 pages. The pages are gilded in silver. Inside there are places to keep photos, and other records from the bride's wedding day.

The bible bible itself is in the KJV with the words of Jesus in red. The font is small but not so small that the print is unreadable. If the bride was going to keep some wedding keepsakes in this bible I wouldn't suggest she use it as her main bible. Instead maybe family and friends could highlight their favorite scriptures for the bride and the bride could refer to it time and again.

He Chose the Nails- Max Lucado

I love Max Lucado's books and it was no different. Lucado does a good job of combining everyday examples of life with the imagery of the cross to paint a compelling picture of God's love as demonstrated by sending the perfect lamb of Jesus Christ to live among sinful beings and to die on their behalf only to conquer the grave and be physically resurrected for the world to see. He uses the nail, the crown of thorns, the clothes that were taken from Jesus, the clothes that were put on him, the two other crosses beside him, and even the soldiers spit to explain the many things that had to happen to bring us salvation. This is a great book for Easter...or anytime of year!

KJV Patriot Bible

This Bible is is made of good quality. Great stitching and pages of decent thickness, not those super-thin Bible pages. The King James Bible text itself contains both the old and new testaments in a verse by verse format (as opposed to paragraph) There are no cross-references or footnotes. The font is in the 10-11 pt. range and is well printed. Combined with opaque paper (almost like textbook paper) this bible is very easy on the eyes for extended reading.

In the back of the bible, there is a list of American presidents, a subject index, a decent sized concordance, and some full color bible maps.

Throughout the Bible you will find quotes, articles and study helps all relating to how Christianity and our American history go hand in hand.

I recommend this Bible to anyone who has a love for our great nation and the Christian heritage it was founded on.

Our Favorite Sins

"Our Favorite Sins" by Todd Hunter is an interesting and original way of addressing sin. Hunter focuses on showing us how much of our behavior is in fact sin and getting to the root of these sin issues. This book isn't written to condemn but rather to help us overcome and defeat these sins once and for all. Most of the sins addressed in this book are things considered "socially acceptable," for example, procrastination, over-eating, and media addiction. I recommend everyone reads this books....and especially those who don't think they have a sin issue.

Healing Your Church Hurt

If you are or have been an involved member in a church, you most likely have experienced "church hurt." Healing Your Church Hurt provides a way out from the hurt and bitterness in a rather direct, but loving manner. Throughout the book the author provides various exercises to work through that pave the way to the following steps and eventually to healing and finally wholeness. The sum of this book in a nutshell states that you can be free from the hurt and pain that comes through the hands of fellow Christians. The reality is we live in an imperfect world with imperfect people and attend imperfect churches. That means, there is potential for hurt and offense within the church. The entire book is a quick read. That said it is full of deeper processes that, if the reader wants to experience healing, needs to take the time to process, do some soul searching and some work, but it is guided by solid biblical principles and is explained in clear language.

Family Shepherds by Voddie Baucham Jr

Voddie Baucham's "Family Shepherds" gives a good amount of really good material for fathers who want to lead their families in a biblical manner. Voddie makes no apology for highlighting the unique calling of men as leaders in the home, a stance that is drawn directly from the Bible although it is also rarely addressed even in the church.  In a society that continues to devalue men and tell them how unimportant they are, I appreciate Voddie’s call in this book for men to be leaders in their home. Voddie does a great job at simply laying out what the role of a man is in regards to his wife and spouse. Founded in the Biblical view of the family is where it all begins. For this reason alone, this book should be a must read for all men in the church, even those without a family.

From the Heart of A Woman Love Letters to My Lord

I really enjoyed this collection of writings by Sylvia Hensel. These are personal writings Sylvia wrote during her private Bible reading time. She writes her prayers, thoughts, responses to the Holy Spirit in such a personal manner to her Lord. It is truly edifying to read her thoughts on various topics. Her writings inspire me to become more intimate with my Heavenly Husband, opening up in a personal way.

I recommend this book to any women, married or single, who desires a closer relationship with Jesus.

From Blah To Awe

From Blah to Awe is a book written for teenage girls from Max Lucado's daughter, Jenna. The goal of this book is to shake you up a little". ' Jenna's passion for the reader to understand how BIG God is and not to settle for lifeless faith is evident from the first pages. The author brings up questions so that you can see where you have put a distance between yourself and God. This book was written in a nice conversational manner and Jenna includes several a personal journal in the book so you can record your answers to the questions she asks in this book. This is a great book for teenage girls and even young adults.

Thank you so much to Thomas Nelson publishers and Book Sneeze for letting me review this book. This is my honest review; I was not required to write a positive one.

The Daniel Fast

Fasting is a Christian discipline that is rarely talked about in the Christian church, so I found the book, The Daniel Fast by Susan Gregory, to be refreshing and enlightening. It focuses on eating only pulse foods and vegetables and fruits that come from seeds and staying away from meat, sweets and wine. She goes into great details of how your body will benefit from this healthy eating plan. Then she starts with Day 1 and goes through day 21 of the fast along with the scriptures. The thing that I liked about this book is that not only is there a section on fasting, but it also explains in great detail what the Daniel fast is and what it isn't.  Susan is helping many people with this book and I know it will help you too!
